Our outdoor education class watched a film called “Nord du Soleil,” set in the isolated and uninhabited bay, of a remote arctic island, facing nothing but the vast Atlantic Ocean. Where two young men built a cabin out of driftwood and other cast-off materials that washed up on shore, and ate only expired foods from the grocery stores proving that the world can be very wasteful. The boys also brought with them two items of utmost importance: Their surfboards – perhaps their biggest motivation for the arctic adventure. The remote bay holds a well kept secret; some of the worlds finest surfing waves. What the film showed was how we can live more simply off what we have and be more efficient in our consumerism and recycling habits. After watching the film, students made useful new gadgets out of recycled materials. Great work team! Bravo!
