International Francophonie Day (Journée internationale de la Francophonie), which celebrates the French language and Francophone culture, is celebrated in the International Organization of La Francophonie’s 77 member states every March 20th.
FrancoFest will be help from 6 to 9 pm at the Fernie Arts Station. Tickets will be on sale at the door on the day of the show, as well as at Le Grand Fromage and Ecole Sophie-Morigeau, which is in the Max Turyk building, 44 Mt Washburn beginning Wednesday, March 12. The cost is $5 for AFRoS members and $7 for non-members. Students 12 to 18 are $2 and children under 12 are free.

In May every year, Canadian Parents for French BC & Yukon Branch, hosts the Provincial Concours d’art oratoire. The CPF Concours d’art oratoire offers hundreds of prizes to participants, including: university scholarships, trips to Ottawa, books, medals, merchandise, cash and more.
Last year, more than 10,000 students in grades 6 through 12 participated in the Concours in communities throughout BC, almost 300 students participated in the Provincial Concours, and 4 students participated in the National Concours in Ottawa.
Teachers and parents have been organizing Concours for over 30 years, and for many students, it’s now part of the curriculum.
Fernie Secondary School will be hosting our Concours:
Wednesday, March 12th in Room 137
Students in French immersion from grades 7, 8, and 9 will be sharing their 3-5 minute speeches. At the end of the evening, three guest judges, will choose the 3 lucky participants from each grade to attend the finals in Cranbrook on April 4th from 10 am – 12 pm.
Please attend to cheer on your child and support French in our community!
If possible, please bring a dessert to share.
Finalists from Cranbrook could potentially be sent to compete in the 2014 Provincial Concours d’art oratoire in Vancouver.
